Sangareddy, January 25: Asserting that nothing short of Telangana with Hyderabad as its capital would be acceptable to his party, TRS president K Chandrashekar Rao on Monday night vowed to continue the struggle till the goal is achieved.
“We won’t accept anything less than Telangana prior to the formation of Andhra Pradesh in 1956. We should fight for Telangana till it is achieved. We have struggled for independence for nearby 200 years. Failure of 1857 revolt was not the end of struggle. That should be the spirit of Telangana movement,” he said addressing a meeting at Sadashivapet near here in Medak district tonight.
Vowing to struggle for Telangana till it is achieved, he said he will accept even if his head is cut but not compromise on the issue.
Coming down heavily on Congress leaders for allegedly not helping the Telangana cause, Rao claimed that it was the same Congress leaders who cheated the Telangana people even in 1969 when hundreds of people died for the separate statehood cause.
“It was Congress that ruined Telangana movement always. In 1969, more than 400 people sacrificed their lives. Then Congress leaders ruined the movement for Cabinet berths and posts. In 1956, unification of all Telugu-speaking areas was the result of Congress’ wicked policy. The Centre went back on its promise to form separate Telangana due to Congress leaders,” he said.
Late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru also opined that Telangana and rest of Andhra Pradesh can separate whenever they wanted, Rao claimed.
