Noted educationist Nizam Uddin Ahmed dead

Noted educationist Nizam Uddin Ahmed died at his residence here today, family sources said. He was 74. Ahmed, popularly known as ‘Maulovi Sir’, was a recipient of the state level Teachers’ Award and had joined Haflong Government Boys’ High School in 1960 and retired in 1997. As a mark of respect to him, all the educational institutions were today given half holiday in the Dima Hasao district where he had served in its headquarters Haflong, official sources said. In a condolence message Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi lauded his contribution in the field of education spanning almost four decades. The Chief Minister expressed his heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul. The Chief Executive Member of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, Debojit Thaosen, called on the bereaved family here to express his condolences. Ahmed is survived by a son and two daughters. His last rites will be performed at Sijubari Idgah Kabarstan tomorrow, the family sources added. PTI
