New Delhi, January 27: The Samajwadi Party appears all set to shut the doors on Amar Singh by filling up the positions that fell vacant after his resignation early this month. SP sources said the party was likely to fill up “very soon” the posts of general secretary and spokesperson.
The party will also announce the name of its vice-president and leader in the Rajya Sabha — both of which fell vacant after the death of Janeshwar Mishra.
Though a final decision is likely to be taken by SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav in consultation with party’s state president Akhilesh Yadav, insiders say these positions are likely to be filled in by SP chief’s old socialist associates.
However, sources said, Ram Gopal Yadav, who raised the red flag against Amar Singh, is unlikely to be upgraded as he already holds the post of general secretary and is also the member of the SP Parliamentary Board. But SP leadership may upgrade the
profile of Amar Singh’s detractors in the party, including Mohan Singh, Brijbhushan Tiwari, Ramjilal Suman, either at the state-level or at the national level, by entrusting them with higher responsibilities.
However, sources maintained that party is likely to go slow on Amar Singh’s current position as the chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare from its quota.
Sources added that SP leadership is contemplating restructuring the party machinery to give representation to a wider social group to cast itself away from the increasing perception of being a party of the Yadav community — a propaganda that’s building up with Amar Singh referring to it in his outbursts.
