Not stopped at Jeddah airport: Mohd Ahmadullah

Hyderabad, October 23: Minorities welfare minister Mohd Ahmadullah who returned to city after completing his Saudi Arabia visit today rubbished reports of he being

stopped at Jeddah airport and said the reports were ‘baseless’. The minister plans to serve legal notices to the news channels for telecasting the news with ‘wrong intentions’.

Speaking to reporters here today, Ahmadullah said that he went to Saudi Arabia to oversee the arrangements at Mecca for the Haj pilgrims visiting from Andhra

Pradesh. The minister, who was accompanied by his family members to Saudi Arabia, denied that they violated any rules or were stopped at Jeddah airport by the authorities. However, the minister did not clarify why he visited Saudi Arabia on Haj visa when he was on an official visit to oversee the arrangements leading to much confusion over his visit. He did not clarify as to whether the visit was official or personal.

It may be recalled that there were reports about Ahmadullah and his family members being stopped at Jeddah Airport by the authorities who reportedly insisted that the minister’s family should stay in the country till the Haj season is over as they entered the country on Haj visa. As per Saudi rules, a person who arrives on Haj visa cannot exit without performing the pilgrimage. It is learnt that the minister and his family members were returning home after performing Umra during their visit to Saudi Arabia on Haj visa. The Indian Consulate intervened to bail out the minister and his family, who then boarded a flight for Hyderabad.
