Not resigning, tweets Modi; dares BCCI to sack him

Mumbai, April 25: In a bold, but what might be a last ditch effort to salvage his fall from grace, the beleaguered IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi sought to take the battle to his adversaries, promising ‘to reveal the men who brought disrepute’ to the game once the IPL concludes on April 25th, i.e. Sunday.

“Wait for the IPL to finish,” read Modi’s latest tweet. “I will reveal the men who have tried to bring disrepute to the game and how we stopped them from doing it.”

Prior to this tweet, in an open defiance to BCCI, Modi had rubbished reports of a ‘compromise formula’ between him an the cricket board, instead, daring the BCCI to sack him.

Even as reports flew thick and fast through the day claiming that he might quit his post of IPL chairman after a telephonic conversation with BCCI president Shashank Manohar, Modi through his twitter account, dispelled all such theories.

“People pressurising me to resign,” he had tweeted. “I can tell you will not happen. Let them remove me then.”

Modi also took a swipe at the media for spreading ‘baseless’ stories.

“Media putting stories without verification goes to show how media can misuse there power. Don’t get influenced by all these baseless stories.”

“Truth will prevail soon. Trial by media and no chance to present the facts is like the wild- west. Wait and the facts will be delivered,” said an apparently miffed Modi.

Modi also used the platform of twitter to harp on his achievements as well as dwell on the growth of IPL.

“What we have done has been there for all of you to see for the past 4 years. No one can take that away.”

It is understood that Modi will now attend the IPL governing council meet on April 26 in Mumbai; a meeting which will predominantly decide Modi’s fate.

Ravi Shastri is being considered a hot favourite to replace Modi as the IPL Commissioner.

Meanwhile, BCCI has decided to go ahead with their April 26 Governing Council meeting despite Lalit Modi’s repeated requests of granting him some more time so that he could submit all the facts.

In an informal meeting of the BCCI on Saturday, it was decided that they (BCCI) would not postpone the date of governing council meeting.

Sources also claimed that a resolution asking Modi to step down would be moved in the meeting. If Modi refuses to resign, he would be sacked in the meeting and a new commissioner would be appointed in his place, sources close to BCCI informed.
