Northeast youth festival organised in Assam

The fourth edition of the three-day long Northeast youth festival was organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in Majuli, a river island in Assam.

Youth from all northeastern states participated in large numbers displaying their cultural diversity and ethnicity to promote unity and brotherhood.

All together 2,000 youth delegates participated from the region in the three-day long extravaganza.

The aim was to foster national integrity by promoting people to people contact through cultural exchange.

The festival was inaugurated by Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers, Ananth Kumar in the presence of Union Minister of State-Independent Change for Sports and Youth Affairs Sarbananda Sonowal and Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma.

They promised to develop tourism infrastructure in the region.

“The Central government has allotted Rs.15 crores for development of tourism in Majuli so that it can be transformed into a major tourism hub. And I’m working for this as a part of my responsibility for the northeast region under the ministries of culture and tourism given to me,” said Sharma.

The participants showcased the diverse culture of the Northeast region.

Assamese Actress Gayatri Mahanta performed Bihu dance and mesmerized the audience.

Others also showcased dances, songs and culture of various tribes from the region.

“I would like to thank the organizing committee for organizing such a wonderful and fantastic event in which we are participating in drama, folk dances, folk songs and wushu,” said Aftab Bansari, a participant from Sikkim.

Seminars on youth related issues were also held during the event.

“We are here to participate in the Northeast youth fest. We feel amazing as we get chance to gather here and get to know different cultures of our region so it’s very amazing,” Seihun, a participant from Sikkim.

“It’s very pleasant to be here. This is the first time I’m coming here. We have a very good experience, it is a beautiful place and we really enjoy,” said Hannah, an artist from Mizoram.
