Non-cooperation movement to continue

Hyderabad, March 01: Yet another attempt made by the government to resolve the non-cooperation agitation of its Telangana employees ended in failure as it achieved no understanding with the Joint Action Committee leaders at the fresh round of talks held through the Cabinet sub-committee here on Monday.

Three hours

After three hours of talks, K. Swamy Goud, chairman, Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Telangana Employees, Teachers and Workers, announced to reporters that the non-cooperation would continue till a decision was taken by the Joint Action Committee leadership on the offer made by the sub-committee.

He resented that sub-committee, represented by Ministers Anam Ramnarayan Reddy (Finance), D. Prasada Rao (Roads & Buildings), C. Damodar Rajanarsimha (Higher Education) and D. Nagender (Labour) assured during the talks that it would only “try” to take a Joint Action Committee delegation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on the Telangana issue.

No clear cut offer

Mr. Goud expressed displeasure that the Ministers did not make any clear-cut offer on their two other main demands to reserve 42 per cent of the jobs in the State for the people of the Telangana in proportion to their population, and to repatriate 60,000 non-locals “working in Telangana” as pointed out by the Girglani Committee.

Injustice

After briefing Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy following initial talks, the Cabinet sub-committee offered to the JAC that the Legislature Committee, the Cabinet sub-committee and the official committee headed by Chief Secretary would be revived immediately, to rectify the injustice done to Telangana employess as proposed by Girglani Committee in its report. The committee had not been reconstituted after 2009.

Judicial commission

Similarly, a judicial commission would be appointed to ensure implementation of recommendations of various committees to do justice to Telangana people. The JAC leaders were told that the Chief Minister had taken up the issue deleting 14 (f) from the Presidential order with the Prime Minister already during his meeting with him recently in New Delhi.

Students, schemes hit

He hoped that JAC leaders would call off the agitation as several welfare schemes meant for the poor were affected and lakhs of students were appearing for annual exams shortly.
