Non-completion of irrigation projects results in drought

Telangana Resource Centre organized a colloquium at Chandram, in the premises of Oxford Grammar School, Himayathnagar under the chairmanship of its president Mr. M. Ved Kumar. Dr. B.V. Subha Rao, Dr. K.L. Vyas, Dr. Shiva Kumar, Dr. Muralidharan, E.R. Dhananjay, Dr. D. Narasimha Reddy, N. Prasad and A.K. Prabhakara Reddy participated in the discussions.

The speakers held the irrigation department responsible for creating shortage of water in Telangana area. This department deliberately kept quiet on the destruction of lakes in Telangana area. These were the sources of drinking water supply for this area. These lakes supplied water for cultivation purposes also.

By preserving the lakes and tanks of Telangana region, the problem of water supply could be solved. The experts blamed the Andhra officials that they are diverting the water from Telangana to Andhra area.

The Govt. is delaying in completing the irrigation projects deliberately which is resulting in a drought situation in Telangana area. It was urged that an organized strategy should be formulated to pressurize the Govt. to complete irrigation project soon.
