Chandigarh, September 26: The nomination papers of 432 candidates, mostly Independents, were rejected while those of 1433 were found in order after scrutiny of papers today for the October 13 Haryana Assembly elections.
The maximum nominations rejected were 13 from Fatehabad followed by 11 in Kalanaur (SC) and 10 in Punhana assembly segment.
From Kalanur (SC) in Rohtak, the candidature of BSP’s Ajmer Singh and his covering candidate Mahavir Narwal was rejected on technical grounds.
From Badshahpur constituency, nomination papers of six candidates were rejected. These included Nandram from SP and Brahmprakash from LJP.
Yesterday was the last day of filing of nomination papers for the 90 Assembly seats. The last date of withdrawal is September 29. The counting of votes would take place on October 22.
The Haryana assembly was dissolved on August 21 seven months ahead of its term following a recommendation by the state cabinet, paving the way for early polls as ruling Congress hopes to capitalize on its success in the Lok Sabha polls in which it retained nine out of ten seats in the state.
Congress had enjoyed an overwhelming majority in the dissolved 90-member House.
