Noisy scenes in GHMC meet; TD members suspended

Hyderabad, December 21: Noisy scenes erupted in the fourth general body meeting of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on Tuesday with the Telugu Desam party corporators demanding that the Council pass resolutions on farmers’ problems and also in support of the indefinite hunger strike of the TDP supremo, Mr N Chandrababu Naidu.

As soon as the meeting commenced, the TDP corporators, carrying placards, barged into the Mayor’s podium resulting in the brief adjournment of the Council. Even after the GHMC council reassembled, the TDP corporators resumed their protest and shouted slogans against the Chief Minister, Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy. With this the Congress members also reciprocated and the Council was reverberated with slogans and counter-slogans.

Even as the Mayor, Ms Banda Kartheeka Reddy tried to pacify the TDP members to remain calm, the latter stuck to their guns and continued to shout slogans. The Mayor initiated action and announced their suspension. When the TDP members failed to obey, the Marshals were called and the unruly members were bundled out physically. However, two women corporators were injured in the melee.
