Noisy Scenes In Assembly; Adjourns Three Times

The Legislative Assembly on Wednesday witnessed unruly and noisy scenes with slogan shouting by TRS, YSRCP and TDP members, resulting in adjournment of the house three times.

Immediately after the Speaker Nadendla Manohar announced that the adjournment motions of TRS on resolution supporting Telangana Statehood and YSRCP on land allocation to IMG Bharat have been disallowed, the TRS and YSRCP members rushed to the podium and displayed placards. The house was reverberated with “Jai Telangana” slogans of TRS members, while the YSRCP members targeted the TDP Chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu. YSRCP members demanded for an inquiry into the allocation of lands to IMG Bharat by earlier Chandrababu Naidu government. Reacting to it, the TDP members also raised slogans.

In an effort to bring the house into order, the Speaker asked the members to show restraint and allow the house to take up the business. As the agitating members have not paid heed to his appeal, the Speaker adjourned the house at 9.08 am, for half-an-hour.
When the house met at 10.10 am, the same scene was repeated. Amid slogans, the Speaker announced that all the questions listed for the day were deemed to have been answered and all the papers listed in the agenda were deemed to have been placed in the house. As the din continued in the house, he adjourned the house at 10.17 am, for the second time, for half- an- hour and asked the floor leaders to come to his chamber to discuss the matter.

The TRS and YSRCP members rushed to the podium and raised slogans soon after the house met again at 11.44 am.

Making an appeal to the opposition members, the Minister for Legislative Assembly D Sridhar Babu reminded that only two-days were left for the budget session, and the house need to take up discussion on demands for grants and pass the appropriation bill. The house has also not yet discussed any report of the Standing Committees. The Government would conduct a meeting of floor leaders to discuss the matter relating to the Telugu people who were struck in Arab countries, he assured.
The Minister for Labor, Danam Nagender, making an appeal to the opposition members, said that key issues were not coming for discussion in the house due to continuous disruption of proceedings. He questioned as to why the TDP members were afraid of the demand of YSRCP for inquiry into land allocations to IMG Bharat by the earlier TDP government. Regarding Telangana Statehood, the discussions were going on at central level to resolve the issue. He requested the opposition members to cooperate with the chair for smooth run of the house.
As the opposition members did not relent, the Deputy Speaker, Mallu Battivikramarka, who is in the chair, for the third time, adjourned the house at 11.54 am to meet at 1 pm. As the opposition members stalled the house even after the house met again at 1.36 pm, the Deputy Speaker adjourned the house to meet at 5 pm today. (NSS)
