Noida Park: SC notice to Centre on urban forest issue

New Delhi, August 06: The Supreme Court today sought a response from the Centre on the suggestion that guidelines should be laid down for giving environment clearance to projects in the vicinity of urban forest like Noida park where construction of statues and memorials for Dalit leaders was carried out by Uttar Pradesh Government.

A Special Forest Bench comprising Chief Justice S H Kapadia and Justices Aftab Alam and K S Radhakrishnan issued a notice to the Ministry of Environment and Forest on the plea made by senior advocate Harish Salve who is assisting the court as amicus curiae in the matter.

The senior advocate had placed a note in this regard before the Bench seeking the laying down of guidelines which will also involve appointment of an expert committee to identify the urban forests.
