No water for defaulting customers: HMWSSB

Hyderabad, October 07: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) Managing Director, Krishna Babu directed the officials to priority for realisation of arrears from customers.

He asked the officials to disconnect the tap connections of those customers who fail to clear the dues and serve them notices.

He took this decision during a review meeting with all Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Managers, Deputy General Managers, General Managers, Chief General Managers of Water Board relating to improvement of revenues.

During the meeting, Krishna Babu briefed about the various water supply benchmark parameters, viz, rate of water supply, extent of metered connections, extent of non-revenue water, leak detection, customer redress and water quality. He fixed a target of Rs 35 crore of revenue per month from this month. He further directed the officials to streamline the supply of free water tankers to be provided only on need basis and also to keep a ledger on all the Single Window Cell connections, which are paid full amount without lapse of time.

Managing Director explained about the national standards and the parameter being maintained by other utilities like in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Hubli, Dharwar, Mysore etc and motivated the Board Engineers to improve the Board’s performance on the above parameters on par with the national standards.

Further, a detailed presentation on new revenue billing software elaborating its various features that will facilitate monitoring and improve the collection efficiency was shown to the officials.

He also specifically directed all the managers to streamline the revenue collection mechanism in their respective sections and stressed on the need to install new number meters for potential customers and the metered bills to be raised.

Billing cycle is to be streamlined by the 15th of every month as per day wise schedules. He also fixed targets to verify the bills issued by the metering staff and outsourcing staff on random basis.

The additional E-pos machines are being issued to the sections where cash counters are not sufficient.
