Hyderabad, January 23: Exhorting people to ensure that their children are vaccinated against the dreaded disease polio, Principal Health Secretary PV Ramesh on Sunday said that there was no truth to rumours doing rounds that two boys have died in Chennai due to administration of pulse polio drops.
Talking to media persons, the Health Secretary said that he had spoken to officials in Tamil Nadu and was told that the deaths of the two boys were not related to the administration of the pulse polio drops.
“I contacted health officials in Tamil Nadu and they clarified that the children died due to other reasons. The children’s deaths were certainly not due to the polio drops,” Dr Ramesh stated.
Expressing confidence that the target of administering vaccines to one crore children in the state would be met, Dr Ramesh said that over 52 lakh children had been administered the drops by 2:30 PM. “We will meet our target by the evening,” he stated.
He called upon parents to get their children vaccinated ‘compulsorily’ without bothering about rumours and save their children’s valuable life from polio.
