No truce likely between Rosaiah and Jagan

Hyderabad, July 12: A rapprochement between chief minister K Rosaiah and Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, appears unlikely. On the contrary, any possibility of a patch up seems to have ended after Jagan’s indirect attack against the chief minister during his Odarpu Yatra. With the young MP not sparing even the high command, a confrontation seems to be well and truly on.

In fact, informed sources in the Congress say Delhi is not happy that Rosaiah has been handling Jagan with kid gloves even after the first time MP went public with his defiance of none other than party president Sonia Gandhi.

The central leaderhsip is reportedly of the view that the chief minister should have rallied his forces more efficiently in countering Jagan’s onslaught against Sonia herself when he indirectly blamed her for not being receptive to his yatra and yet went ahead with it.

Rosaiah has his own traits whether one likes them or not. He has never been a aggressive politico and is unlikely to change at this late hour. He also has for company a group of ministers who are not very keen on taking on Jagan, uncertain as they are about the future developments in the Congress.

Even as Jagan has blamed the Congress leadership for not allowing MLAs and ministers to participate in his yatra even if they wanted to, the Congress leadership is said to be gathering details of the number of telephone calls made by him to them pressing them to make their presence felt.

“On the one hand, Jagan is saying he is not forcing anyone to accompany him on his tour. At the same time, he is putting undue pressure on ministers and MLAs. Jagan is saying the legislators are facing mental trauma for staying away. But the truth is that they are going through a trauma because of the pressure from the MP’s camp,” a Rosaiah loyalist remarked.

For now, Delhiā€™s approach is to wait and watch though Sonia is undoubtedly miffed with Jagan. It is keenly assessing how many MLAs would back the MP in the event of his forming a new political outfit. Jagan campers feel that he should force the high command to send him out (if it will not make him CM) so that he could exploit the sympathy. Seasoned as they are, leaders in Delhi are not prepared to give Jagan any such handle.

One advice that seems to be going out to Delhi is to just ignore the boy, tighten the rank and file and wait for him to burn himself out.
