Telangana Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy on Friday categorically stated that no Hyderabadi was involved in any terror related activity.
Replying to a question raised by Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy in the State Legislative Council during Question Hour, the Home Minister rejected reports that outskirts of Hyderabad and Cyberabad police limits have become terrorist hideouts. Referring to the previous cases of bomb blast and other terror activities, he said such acts were performed by outsiders and no locals were involved in them. He also explained the steps being taken by the government to modernise and upgrade the police forces in Hyderabad at a cost of more than Rs 320 crore.
The Home Minister said enough precautions are being taken to keep a tab on suspicious activities. The government has also approved installation of CC cameras at strategic locations. He said that the government would ensure that Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana remain free from terrorist activities.
MIM MLCs Syed Aminul Hasan Jafferi and Syed Altaf Hyder Rizvi sought the status of investigation into the Mecca Masjid blast case of 2007. He also demanded that the government table the report of Bhaskar Rao Commission which probe the police firing incident near Mecca Masjid after the blast. He claimed that the Commission had submitted its report to the then Congress Government and the same was also discussed in a cabinet meeting.
Congress MLC Peer Shabbir Ahmed complained that Gujarat police have been picking up Muslim youth and other locals from Hyderabad in different cases. He asked the government to ensure that the Gujarat police intimate the Hyderabad Police before arresting anyone.
Leader of the Opposition D Srinivas asked the Home Minister whether the terrorists groups have any local contacts or sleeper cells in the City. Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy pointed out that some victims of Gokul Chat blast were in need of government assistance. Mohammed Ali Shabbir said many innocent youth, who were arrested in Mecca Masjid blast case and later let off, did not receive the promised compensation from the government.
Responding to these questions, the Home Minister said he would get details about the Bhaskar Rao Commission report and would act on it. He said that the Mecca Masjid blast case has been going on in the court and nine people were arrested in the case. Besides assuring the House that government would take all measures to maintain peace, he said government would do justice to the innocent youth who were wrongly arrested.
