Secondary Education Minister K. Parthasarathi, who is also looking after Excise, has said no targets were set for the wine dealers on liquor sales in the State.
Speaking to the media here on Tuesday, Parthasarathy said the State government was contemplating to set up de-addiction centers in every district, which will be functioning under direct supervision of district health and medical officers.
Stating that Excise licences were renewed only for the existing dealers, Parthasarathy said the government was constrained to give permission to liquor dealers to earmark separate rooms in liquor shops for consumption following a number of complaints that drunkards were causing nuisance in residential areas after consuming liquor near the shops.
