No schoolbag day: TS Govt. proposes to reduce burden of the students

Hyderabad: In an attempt to minimize the heavy burden of school bags on the students, TS Government is seriously considering to declare one day as no schoolbag day so that students are not required to take bags to schools on a day once a week.

Dept. of Education has prepared this suggestion after careful consideration that a day should be declared on which the students are not required to take any book to school.

This step has been taken in the wake of the complaints received by the Govt. but it is felt that its implementation is very difficult.

According to the sources of Dept. of Education, this system has been adopted in Karnataka since last year. It is understood that Govt. of Telangana is seriously considering issuing a notification in this regard.

It may be mentioned that Dept. of Education had already issued instructions that the students of 1st and 2nd standards should not be burdened with schoolbag containing more than 1.5 kg weight whereas for the students studying in 3rd to 5th standards instructions were issued not to keep school bags weighing more than 3 kg. In the same manner, for the students of 6th and 7th classes, the limit of the weight of schoolbag was fixed at 4 kg, for the students of 8th and 9th classes it was 4.5 kg and for the students of the 10th standard it was 5 kg.

It is observed that in most of the schools, these instructions are not being carried out.
