New Delhi, July 25: Playing down reports claiming the rift between government and Congress party on the India-Pakistan statement signed in Egypt, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday assured that the government has all relevant answers on the statement.
There is not any rift between government and Congress party on the Indo-Pak joint statement, Dr Singh said.
The government will give relevant answers to the joint statement at relevant time, the PM said.
Dr Singh is scheduled to address both Houses of Parliament on July 29.
He further held the media responsible for creating such rumours of issues of difference between Congress party and the government.
Dr Singh’s statement came a day after the Congress top brass decided to robustly support the Prime Minister’s diplomatic initiative on Pakistan and counter Opposition.
The meeting was held at the residence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and attended by Sonia Gandhi, Defence Minister AK Antony, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Home Minister P Chidambaram and Gandhi’s political secretary Ahmed Patel, among others.
The over two-hour long meeting of the Congress Core Group came in the backdrop of the unease in the party over the joint statement.
There was no official word about the deliberations at the crucial meeting.
Several Congress leaders, including some senior ministers, appear to be having serious reservations over the formulation of the joint statement, especially delinking action on terror with the composite dialogue and the reference to Balochistan.
