No respite from flood situation in Assam

Guwahati (Assam): There is no respite from the flood situation in Assam. Rains in catchment areas in neighbouring Bhutan have flooded parts of Bongaigaon and Chirang districts.

Over 84,000 people have been affected in Bongaigaon alone. Defence PRO said the army has been deployed in rescue mission at Chirang.

Flood alert has been sounded in Dhubri district for the next 24 hours. Nearly three lakh people are reeling under floods in nine districts.

As per reports, flood and erosion took serious turn in Lower Assam. Surface communication badly affected due to flood.

Boats have been pressed into service in relief and rescue works. Flood alert has been sounded at some areas in Dhubri district for the next 24 hours.
