Patna: While Home Ministry confirmed CAA is now in force through a gazette notification released on January 10, Bihar State CM Nitish Kumar today ruled out the implementation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state.
Speaking at the state assembly today, Nitish Kumar said: “There is no question of NRC in Bihar. It was in discussions only in context of Assam. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also clarified on it,” TOI reports.
Previously, JD(U) vice president Prashant Kishor opposed the amended
Citizenship Act publicly.
It may be recalled the new legislation – Citizenship (Amendment) Act grants
Indian citizenship to six non-Muslim communities — Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist,
Jain, Parsi and Christian — who have come to India from Pakistan, Bangladesh
and Afghanistan till December 31, 2014 after facing religious persecution while
discriminates against Muslim community, labelling the existing Muslims as ‘illegally
immigrants’, making them stateless in their own country.
