Hyderabad, December 31: Maintaining that there ”is no proclaimed or unproclaimed President’s rule in the state”, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah today made it clear that Governor E S L Narasimhan had not held any law and order review meeting soon after assuming charge on Monday.
”The Governor is the Head of the State and it is his government.
The Governor did not call for any meeting. ”We incidentally briefed him about the happenings in the State,” the Chief Minister told reporters at the Secretariat.
On opposition TDP leaders’ reported remarks the Governor had reviewed law and order as there was an unproclaimed President’s Rule in the State, he quipped, ”there is no proclaimed or unproclaimed President’s rule in the state.” ”On that day, it was I who took an appointment and asked some officers to accompany me,” he said, adding it was wrong to say that the Governor had reviewed, law and order situation in the State.
Mr Narasimhan is a retired IPS officer from Andhra Pradesh Cadre, he said, adding, ”it is natural for him to be interested in knowing more on what is happening in the State. Please don’t read beyond that.” ”Surprised” over the Governor reportedly reviewing law and order situation, TDP leaders had yesterday wondered whether the State was under President’s rule now and wanted Mr Rosaiah to clarify whether a democratically-elected popular government was there or not.
Meanwhile at a separate press conference, Director General of Police R R Girish Kumar, replying to a question, opined that the Governor had a right to elicit information on the State’s affairs.
