There should be no politics over cricket: Shukla

Kanpur: A day after senior BJP leader Shanta Kumar demanded cancellation of the T20 Cricket World Cup match between India and Pakistan to be played in Dharamsala on March 19, Congress leader and IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla today said there should be no politics over cricket.

“Pakistan cricket team will visit India because of its commitment to the ICC. There should be no politics over cricket,” he said.

Kumar had yesterday said the Indo-Pak cricket match should be cancelled as a mark of respect to the martyrs and soldiers from the state.

Keeping in view the recent terror attacks in Pathankot and Gurdaspur, if peace talks with Pakistan could be deferred, why the cricket match cannot be cancelled, he had said.

Earlier, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh had also voiced his concern over the proposed match in Dharamsala.

“As far as bilateral series is concerned, BCCI wants to play it in Sri Lanka but can’t do anything until the Centre gives a green signal,” Shukla said.

Regarding inclusion of Pakistani players in Indian Premier League (IPL), he said no decision has been taken about it yet.
