New Delhi, November 16: Accepting a woman’s dying declaration, a Delhi court has sentenced a man for murdering her saying no person lies at the time of death.
The man set afire his wife after she refused to pay him Rs 20,000 received by her from her former husband during a divorce proceeding.
“No one at the point of death is presumed to lie. A person will not meet his maker (the god) with a lie in his mouth,” Additional Sessions Judge Arun Kumar Arya said, while lending credence to the dying declaration of victim Meena alias Sonia.
Instead of convicting the accused under section 304B (dowry death) of the IPC, the court held him guilty under harsher penal provision, dealing with murder, and awarded life sentence to him.
