No pay for Air India staff for the last 3 months

Mumbai, August 04: No salary for the last three months for over 33,000 Air India employees. Air India’s financial crisis has hit home. Families at the Air India housing colony are angry and worried.

Wife of Air India ground staffer Varsha Bhalerao siad, “Now they are saying they can’t keep him in Nanavati. Where will we get the money from.”

The airline is facing a daily loss of over Rs 28 crore rupees and it is paying Rs 9.1 crore per day in interest alone on various loans.

Official airline sources rather bluntly told us lack of funds in the airline had led to this issue, but did not specify a time-frame by when the salaries would be disbursed.

But the question that many bitter employees are now asking is – if this company could sponsor free air travel for practically the entire film industry during the recent IIFA Awards, in Toronto, then why doesn’t it have enough funds to even disburse salaries?
