Mumbai, March 01: A. R. Rahman was hoping to have a special moment and conquer many Indian hearts by winning the Oscars for the second time for Danny Boyle’s ‘127 Hours’ (If I Rise track) in the Original score and Original Song category as his last win at the Oscars was for ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ in 2009.
However, sadly, the Indian music maestro couldn’t sweep the desirable trophy at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards on Sunday night.
Rahman missed out the elusive win for the Original Score to Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for ‘The Social Network’ and the Original Song to Randy Newman’s ‘We Belong Together’ from ‘Toy Story 3’.
Apart from his Oscar loss, Rahman’s performance ‘If I Rise’ from ‘127 Hours’ with Florence Welch also didn’t make a good impression as his vocal strings and recital was considered a flump.
Looks like this year hasn’t started on a good note for the ‘Mozart of Madras’ as his expectation to grab the Best Original Music category at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts failed, since he lost the honor to Alexandre Desplat for ‘The Kings’s Speech’.
Other than this, the 45-year-old musician didn’t have any major transitional win at the BAFTA this year after having won the 2009 BAFTA for his work in ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.
However, the musician did manage to clench the Best Original Song award for ‘If I Rise’ from ‘127 Hours’ at the 16th Critics’ Choice Awards last month.
Oscar winners
Wining was everything for the Oscar winners, who were dashing away with their coveted crown at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards.
The film that garnered too many awards at the Oscars was ‘The King’s Speech’, which scored the trophy for the Best Picture and apart from that, it had also capped the statuettes for the lead actor Colin Forth, Best Director for Tom Hooper and David Seidler for the Original screenplay.
Meanwhile, the other big winner at the Oscars that also took four crowns was the film ‘Inception’, while ‘The Social Network’ sweept away three Oscars.
Incidentally, the other films that were toeing away equally with the top contenders by winning two Oscars includes ‘Toy Story 3’, ‘The Fighter’ and ‘Alice in Wonderland’.
Apart from films, the actress who took home the Oscar in the Best Actress category was Natalie Portman for her role as an unhinged ballerina in ‘Black Swan’.
