Hyderabad, October 30: There may not be any contestant from Andhra Pradesh for the elections to the Congress Working Committee (CWC) member posts, APCC president D Srinivas has said.
The CWC elections will be held at the All India Congress Committee session scheduled for November 2 in New Delhi. All the 141 AICC members (both elected and coopted members) who have been invited from the state, will be treated as special invitees.
The CWC members are likely to be elected unanimously. According to party sources, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has powers to nominate persons of her choice as CWC members.
Talking to newsmen at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday, the APCC chief said there would be no voting right for the AICC members representing the state as the APCC election process is yet to be completed. Normally, all the PCC presidents and chief ministers of the Congress ruled states in the country will be treated as coopted members of the CWC.
“Since there are no AICC members from the state who have voting rights, I think nobody from Andhra Pradesh will contest the CWC polls. I should find out from the party’s constitution whether there is any scope for the coopted members to contest the polls,’’ he said.
The one-day AICC session will be chaired by AICC president Sonia Gandhi. Apart from CWC elections, the AICC session will hold discussions on current political and economic scenario.
The foreign policy of the UPA Government will also be discussed, he said.
Replying to a query, he said the next AICC plenary session would be held between December 15 and 20 in Rajasthan.
There is no intimation to the APCC from the party high command about AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the state capital to take part in tomorrow’s NSUI state convention, he said.
