No need to press panic button on Jaitapur: Ajit Pawar

Mumbai, April 08: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar today?said there was no need to press the panic button on the Jaitapur nuclear power project in the wake of the nuclear crisis in Japan.

? Replying to a debate on the budgetary demands of Power Department, Pawar, who is in charge of the portfolio, said in the Legislative assembly that technology was evolving and?the Union government was taking all precautions to avoid mishaps.

The investment in Jaitapur is to the tune of Rs one lakh crore.

Pawar said that first phase of 1650 mw will be completed in 2018, and the entire Jaitapur project will be completed by 2030.

He said that tsunami, which even in worst case can not reach above 35 feet, would not hit the Jaitapur project as the site was above 70 feet from sea level.
