Hyderabad, May 28: Former Chief Minister K. Rosaiah feels that replacement of the incumbent N. Kiran Kumar Reddy was no solution in the backdrop of the debacle suffered by Congress in the by-elections since the present situation required fine tuning the attitude of the party towards people to win back their confidence.
Responding to a question during an interaction with reporters here on Friday, Mr. Rosaiah said he did not think that the prospects of Congress would improve merely by changing a Chief Minister. The party must introspect why people were disenchanted with it and take corrective steps.
Mr. Rosaiah said he had written a letter to AICC president Sonia Gandhi suggesting that the defeat of Congress in Kadapa and Pulivendula by-elections was a temporary setback to party. It should be analysed in depth by the leaders who should put their heads together to chalk out plans to strengthen the party.
Asked whether change of guard would help in the circumstances, he said frequent replacement of Chief Ministers was no solution and hastened to add in this context that his removal from the post could not be considered replacement as he had volunteered to step down on health grounds.
To another question whether the attraction of people towards late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy worked in favour of his son Jaganmohan Reddy, Mr. Rosaiah said it was a temporary phenomenon which was not difficult to overcome.
He put the exit of Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy from Congress on the same pedestal as when Prakasam Pantulu, N.G. Ranga and M. Channa Reddy left the party to float their own outfits. The Congress weakened temporarily then also but regained strength over the years.
He added that the Congress could not be written off as it had its own merits which people had come to believe despite several scams painted against it.
The party could make the right adjustments in the next three years of its rule and win back the confidence of people.
