Rajya Sabha member-elect K. Chiranjeevi met party president Sonia Gandhi here on Saturday and conveyed his thanks for nominating him to the Upper House of Parliament.
Talking to the media later, Chiranjeevi said that there were adverse results for the Congress party because of strong Telangana sentiment. He felt that there was no need for any one to resign as demanded by some.
Replying to questions, the former megastar exuded confidence that the Congress would surely win the Tirupati by-election. He said that none of his nominees would be contesting from the seat he was vacating. When asked about minister Galla Aruna Kumari’s announcement that her son would be contesting from Tirupati, Chiranjeevi said he had no information on this.
Chiranjeevi has said Kiran Kumar Reddy was working very efficiently. He said that he came to New Delhi only to thank Sonia Gandhi for giving him Rajya Sabha seat and minister posts to his party men. He also revealed that he had discussed about by-elections with the party chief. Chiranjeevi has expressed confidence that results of next by-elections would be better.
When asked about mutual attacks by Congress men, Chiranjeevi said this was nothing new in the Congress party. Stating that people’s confidence on Congress has increased, Chiranjeevi said that to get absolute confidence, every one should work hard. He has expressed total confidence that Congress would win all the 18 Assembly seats and asserted that it was the development that would ensure Congress victory.
When asked if he asked for Union cabinet berth, Chiranjeevi has said asking like that was not in his nature. He said that he would abide by whatever decision Sonia Gandhi takes. He said that she made some specific suggestions for strengthening the Congress party.
