No move to remove public taps in city slums: Minister

The Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Maheedhar Reddy on Tuesday made it clear that the Government is not having any plan to remove the public taps setup for poor people in slum areas in the cities.

In reply to a question in the Legislative Assembly here, Maheedhar Reddy also made it clear that there was no proposal with the government to provide free tap connections to poor people in the urban areas. However, the State Government has issued orders to sanction one house service connection on payment of Rs 1,200 per connection including the cost of pipes and road cutting charges to the Below Poverty Line house holds possessing a white ration card and not having access to house service connection.

He also reminded that to further reduce the burden on the urban poor, tap connection charges were reduced from Rs 1200 to Rs 200 per connection to below poverty line households. (NSS)
