Hyderabad, April 22: Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) president K Chiranjeevi today dismissed reports about his party’s merger with the Congress.
Addressing PRP state executive committee meeting at Film Club today, Chiranjeevi said both the TDP and Congress were spreading the rumours of the merger. “They feel that PRP was a stumbling block for them,’’ Chiranjeevi said.
“The future belongs to PRP. The party will be further strengthened,’’ he said added that the PRP would be a decisive force in the state in the coming days.
He said the TDP was of the opinion that it could not win in the last elections because of the presence of PRP. The ruling Congress too was of the feeling that it could not get absolute majority in the last elections due to the division of the opposition votes, he said.
Chiranjeevi also recalled that the then Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy said that PRP took away 11 per cent votes of the Congress and six per cent votes of the TDP.
“Both the parties are spreading rumours against PRP so as it weaken it in the state. But, I have good image among the public and the PRP would be a force to reckon with,’’ he said. On some leaders quitting the party, Chiranjeevi said that those who want to make quick money entered the party. Such selfish leaders and politically unemployed left the party. “The PRP doors are open.
Those who want to quit the party may leave now itself,’’ he advised.
