No link between defeat and anti-separatist stand of Seemandhra leaders: JC

Anantapur, August 02: Former minister JC Diwakar Reddy on Sunday stated that there is no link between the party losing heavily in the by-elections and the anti-bifurcation stance taken by the Seemandhra Congress leaders.

Talking to media persons, Mr Diwakar Reddy the main reason behind the defeat of the Congress party was the strong Telangana sentiment. He said that the voters saw the candidates who resigned from the Assembly seats as martyrs and voted overwhelmingly for them.

The former minister added that if the sitting Congress MLAs from the Telangana region had also resigned and then contested again, they would sweep the elections.

Reminding that the term of Mr Srinivas as PCC president is about to expire soon, Mr Diwakar Reddy said that blaming the party chief for the defeat is wrong.

The former minister said that the party will consider the situation on the ground carefully before electing the next PCC president.
