Mumbai, August 13: No one can forget the supreme sacrifices of two brave NSG Commandos, Maj Sandeep Unnikrishnan and Hav Gajender Singh who made the supreme sacrifice and laid down their lives valiantly fighting the terrorists during ‘Operation Black Tornado’ in Mumbai.
The brave commandos of country’s elite force ‘National Security Guard’ (NSG) accomplished the task assigned to it when Pakistani terrorists stormed into the Financial Capital of India on November 26, 2008.
Terrorists had spread death and mayhem by taking the life of police officers, common people and innocent guests and staff of two prestigious hotels but it was NSG, which flushed out militants from Indian soil after over 24 hrs of battle.
After the ‘Operation Black Tornado’ the elite force of country received sincere acclaim and praise form all the corners but it is real disappointment for brave NSG commandos, who are still waiting for the deserving honour and promises made by the government.
Country’s is geared up to celebrate the 64th Independence Day of India on August 15 but a NSG commando is still deprived of government promises and honour.
The NSG commandos have been hoodwinked by the government agency and are facing apathy.
When one NSG commando tried to raise the concern, he was transferred to another unit and also threatened by the senior officials.
NSG Jawan Suni Kumar, who was adjudged best commando in 2008, is still waiting for the justice. He knocked the door of PMO and approached powerful Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to get the justice but result was zilch.
He also sought reply from defence ministry through RTI but once again he was disappointed. Acting on his RTI, Defence Ministry said that neither any recommendation nor any recomandation is pending to honour any NSG commando with gallantry award.
However, the Opposition BJP has grasped the issue to corner the government. The saffron party has said that it will raise the issue in parliament.
Interestingly, the NSG commandos, who freed the Mumbai from clutches of terrorists, received a very small amount. Government of Maharashtra just offered Rs 50 thousand while Central government announced Rs one lakh. NSG headquarter released Rs 78, 318.
The amount was not released from the government account but it was deducted from the salaries of NSG commandos.
Audaciously, the injured jawans are also not provided free treatment and they are also shouldering their medical burden.
However, Sunil’s village never forget to give honour to the brave soldier. The village named a road after him.
