‘No halt in Iran’s nuclear activity at Fordo’

Tehran, December 19: The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran says Tehran will not halt the construction of its Fordo nuclear enrichment facility.

Speaking to the Iranian Students News Agency, ISNA, Ali Akbar Salehi said, “the IAEA Board of Governors’ resolution against Iran is ineffective.”

He added that western moves to halt the construction of the Fordo nuclear plant, southwest of the capital are illegal.

Salehi said some Western countries are trying to force Tehran out of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT); however, the Islamic Republic will remain committed to the treaty despite its shortcomings.

Salehi noted that Iran prefers to purchase uranium enriched at 20 percent as fuel for its research reactor in Tehran although it has the potential for further enrichment.

The Tehran reactor produces radio isotopes for medical purposes.
