No conspiracy behind violence: Opposition

Hyderabad, March 31: Legislators and Floor Leaders from the Opposition parties, at an all party-meeting called by Chief Minister Rosaiah at the Assembly today, urged him to see to it that Congress leaders desist from public utterances on a “conspiracy’’ behind behind the riots in Old City as this would only aggravate the situation.

The meeting was attended by ministers P Sabitha Reddy, D Nagender, Ahmadullah, Government Chief Whip MB Vikramarka, TD legislators N Janardhan Reddy, G Muddukrishnama Naidu and M Narasimhulu, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council D Veerabhadra Rao, PRP legislators Shobha Nag i Reddy and B Sathyananda Rao, MIM legislator Mumtaz Khan, CPI Floor Leader G Mallesh, BJP legislator G Kishan Reddy, CPM Council member Ch Laxminarayana, Lok Satta legislator Jayaprakash Narayan and member of the Legislative Council B Mohan Reddy.

Emerging from the meeting, the legislators alleged that Congress leaders were aggravating the situation by trotting out the conspiracy theory.

Urging the Government to restore normalcy in the Old City as early as possible, they asked the chief minister make an appeal from the Floor of the House seeking public help in restoring normalcy.

The legislators also suggested that Government should see to it that religious buntings and flags put up on festivals were removed immediately after the occasion was over. They also sought more forces in the Old City to protect innocent people.

The attendees urged the Government to ensure supply of essentials in curfew-bound areas.

The chief minister agreed to do so and later made a statement in the House to this effect.
