Nagpur, December 16: Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil today gave a clean chit to the accused in the Malegaon blast in connection with the death of ATS chief Hemant Karkare and others during the 26/11 terror attack in the metropolis, saying there was no link between the two incidents.
“The statement of Congress leader Digvijay Singh was his personal view,” the minister informed the state legislative assembly.
He was replying to an adjournment motion moved by Subhash Desai of Shiv Sena and others regarding the controversial statement of Mr Singh regarding the 26/11 terror attack. The Opposition demanded that the government register an FIR against the the leader of national party.
Elaborating, Mr Patil said in the 26/11 attack Karkare was martyred. Police caught Ajmal Kasab and the sessions judge already given him the death penalty. Now, the terrorist has appealed to a higher court, he said.
He said according to the police investigation, there was no connection directly or indirectly to the Malegaon accused with the 26/11 attack.
