In his first interaction today with senior faculty and staff members of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), the newly appointed Chancellor of the university, Zafar Yunus Sareshwala, said it is his fundamental belief that no community could progress without education.
He further said the university should ensure the employability of its students along with the growth of Urdu language. He offered to use his connections in the industry and the government to ensure that MANUU students get the necessary exposure.
As per the tradition of the university, the interactive session started with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. Dr. Khwaja M. Shahid, Pro Vice Chancellor MANUU, welcomed the newly appointed chancellor on behalf of the university fraternity and presented a brief introduction of Sareshwala.
Vice Chancellor Professor Mohammad Miyan made a detailed power point presentation of the university’s aims and achievements. He enumerated the courses offered by the university in different streams and the Schools, Departments, and Centres that are currently functional. He also made reference to the Model Schools, Colleges, ITIs, Polytechnics, Regional and Sub-Regional Centres run by the university in different cities of the country.
The vice chancellor gave an overview of the present and upcoming infrastructure of the university. He also mentioned the fact that MANUU is one of the few university’s in the country that have an all-India jurisdiction. Talking about the university’s expansion plans, he projected a financial requirement of about 350 crores rupees in the next five years. For this, he said, a special grant from the Government of India may be required.
The interaction ended with the presentation of a memento by the vice chancellor to the chancellor. Sareshwala in turn also presented a souvenir to Prof. Miyan.
Earlier, Sareshwala inaugurated the newly constructed building of H.K. Sherwani Centre for Deccan studies. Prof. Salma Ahmed Farooqui, Director, presented him a copy of publications of Centre. Sareshwala also visited Urdu Centre, Polytechnic, ITI & Media Centre.
He also interacted with the representatives of various elected bodies. (INN)
