A total of 2,969 candidates have filed their nomination papers for 150 wards of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation which are going for polls on February 2.
A total of 1,704 candidates filed their papers on the last day of filing of nominations on Sunday, informed GHMC Commissioner and Election Authority Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy.
Despite closure of nominations, there is no clarity on the official candidates of major political parties. Several candidates have filed their nomination on behalf of their parties. Although the TRS has announced all 150 candidates through four lists, a total of 698 candidates filed nominations as TRS candidates. Similarly 501 Congress candidates filed their papers from 150 wards. Although TDP is contesting on 90 seats, 506 nominations were filed on behalf of the party. Likewise, as against 60 wards allotted in seat-sharing pact, 308 BJP candidates filed their papers. Only 61 MIM candidates filed their nominations.
The other candidates who filed their nominations are CPI – 28; CPM – 29; YSRCP – 3; Lok Satta – 31; Other Registered Parties – 39 and Independents – 638.
Dr. Janardhan Reddy said that the official candidates will be decided based on the B-Forms issued by respective parties.
He also informed that State Level Bankers Committee chairman has been asked to direct all bank branches to transfer cash with complete documents so as to avoid any inconvenience. He also informed nearly 1.51 lakh flexies, banners, hoardings and flags were removed today. (INN)
