Iqbal Meer Sharma, who is Deputy Director General in Trade Promotion Board of South Africa, has accused actor Saif Ali Khan of physically assaulting him and his father-in-law at the Wasabi restaurant in Taj on Tuesday night.
Narrating the entire incident, Sharma alleged that Saif’s group was the disturbing lot at the restaurant and despite requesting them to keep the volume low they in turn resorted to violence.
“They were a large group and were very noisy. I requested them to keep quite as we were getting disturbed. Saif Ali Khan then came over to my table, pushed me and then punched me,” he said.
“My father-in-law sitting next to me tried to intervene. Saif than punched him as well, who also suffered injuries. At least three others were also involved in the attack. None of the girls in the group were involved. The hotel staff had warned them several times to keep quiet but they never listened,” said Sharma.
Sharma suffered a fracture to his nose bone and his father-in-law also had to undergo a medical treatment after the incident. However, he has vowed to take up the matter very seriously.
“I and my father-in-law had to see a doctor and both of us underwent treatment. I will not accept his apology. Now I intend to take up the case to the full extent of the law.How can he hit a senior citizen? My complaint with the police is already registered,” Sharma said.
Iqbal said his family was not enjoying due to the noise and he asked the waiters to shift him to another table in the lower level of the restaurant. At that time Saif had just left the hall. As waiters were shifting his table and Iqbal was leaving, he came face to face with Saif in the door way. Saif told him if he wanted peace he should go to the library. “Saif’s language was abusive and he kept saying that he was a big actor. Don’t you know who I am?” The fight began from there.
