No canvassing in civic polls from March 28: SEC

The State Election Commission issued Notifications for conduct of 4th ordinary elections to Municipal Bodies on March 3. Election process is underway in 10 Municipal Corporations and 146 Municipalities and Nagara Panchayats in the State.
SEC secretary Navin Mittal has stated that the poll is scheduled on March 30. Under Section 600 of GHMC Act, 1955 and Section 343C of AP Municipalities Act, 1965, campaigning shall not be done in the polling areas during the prohibitory period of 48 hours ending with the hour fixed for conclusion of poll, i.e from 5 pm on March 28 to 5 pm on March 30.
The ordinary elections to MPTCs and ZPTCs are also simultaneously held as per the schedule notified by the State Elections Commission on March 10. The list of contesting candidates will be published in respect of all MPTCs and ZPTCs on March 24 after 3 pm and polis scheduled on April 6. The prohibitory period for campaigning in the polling areas concerned in respect of MPTC/ZPTC elections under Section 214 of AP Panchayat Raj Act, 1994 shall be from 5 pm on April 4 to 5 pm on April 6.
In view of the above position, it is clarified that campaign should not take place in the polling areas of all Urban Local Bodies notified for elections from 5 pm on March 28 to 5 pm on March 30. However, there is no restriction on campaigning in rural areas i n connection with MPTC/ZPTC elections during the period i.e from 5pm on March 28 to 5 pm on March 30. (NSS)
