No breakthrough as TS, AP stick to guns KRMB to set up sensors after inspection

Krishna River Water Management Board  (KRMB), which met here on Wednesday, concluded without any breakthrough as the two Telugu States stuck to their guns on the allocation of waters.

A three-member committee of the Board held talks with the top Irrigation officials of the two States and heard their versions on water allocations. It could not take any decision as the differences came to the fore by both the States. Telangana EMC Muralidhar denied waters for drinking through right canal to Andhra Pradesh as Nagarjuna Sagar sans adequate water level. Muralidhar also sought waters for Hyderabad drinking purpose and for conducting trial run for Bheema, Nettempadu and Kalwakurty projects in Mahbubnagar district.

Board member-secretary Samir Chattarjee said no decision was taken on the allocation of waters to either State as both Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam projects have waters below normal. The Board will hold a key discussion with irrigation secretaries of the two States for a consensus, he maintained. He also said a team of the KRMB will soon make a field visit to the projects for setting up sensors. The team, Chatterjee said, will inspect the canals and projects to find suitable locations for setting up the censors.

The team will take stock of the facts and will come out with a decision on the locations of the sensors to be set up. It is likely that the sensors are to settle the long-pending tussle among Telangana and Andhra Pradesh by recording the facts of waters allotted and used by both the States. (NSS)
