New Delhi, December 20: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has launched the facility of recording the attendence of its employees through biometric system. The idea was to check the dedication of the employees towards here work in the office.
But the employees had never made it to putting up there finger on the biometric panel to record there attendence. Now the civic body has decided to act tough on theemployees by issuing the circular of ‘no attendence-no salary’ to its Grade D employees which includes sweepers and peons.
According to MCD spokesperson Deep Mathur, these employees mostly comprise substitute safai karamcharis. “These workers report about three to four times a month to fill in for regular safai karamcharis. Salaries of about 20,000 such substitute safai karamcharis who have not got enrolled in the system will not be released. Those who have not registered themselves under thebiometric system could still do so as the registration process is still on. Our idea is to encourage them to co-operate with us by coming forward and falling in line with thebiometric system.”
Recently, the civic body had set up a fact-finding committee to look into irregularities connected with the biometric system and the report had revealed 22,853 “missing” employees. The committee is still verifying a number of bank accounts of its employees to find out further details. The civic agency had earlier admitted to incurring a loss of Rs.204 crore due to these “missing” employees.
