A meeting of Telangana leaders today decided to go it alone instead of having alliance with TRS for general elections. A letter in this regard is to be sent to AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi, sources said.
Stating that there will be no truck with Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) for general elections, senior leader K Jana Reddy stated that they will gift the new government to Sonia Gandhi for giving statehood to Telangana. We will sure fight it alone and win the elections. Talking to press persons after a meeting at his residence, Reddy said that the high command will announce two separate PCCs one for Telangana and residuary AP in a couple of days. It is learnt that the party chief decided to rope in Jana as the Telangana PCC chief and an announcement is likely on Monday.
Reddy appealed to Telangana people to vote for the Congress for keeping its promise of giving statehood. He evaded a query that whether the Congress replicate TD Chief N Chandrababu Naidu who promised to make BC leader to be Chief Minister if voted to power in Telangana. He said that they will invite AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi and deputy chief Rahul Gandhi to thanks giving Public Meetings one at Hyderabad and other at Warangal respectively for giving statehood to Telangana whose dates to be announced later. After taking much pain and trouble besides criticism the Congress has decided and given statehood, which could not have done by either or TDP which have only a few MP seats, he said. Jana Reddy will lead a 10-member committee for the forthcoming general elections and will campaign in the region. We will abide by the party decision on having alliance with the TRS for elections, Jana said.
Though opposed bifurcation after Parliament passing the bill, TD through its letter and YCP supported formation of Telangana, he said. It is the Congress suffered all problems with regard to passing the bill, Reddy said. Parliament and Assembly witnessed a war like situation while taking up T bill as Seemandhra leaders of all political parties opposed the division, Jana Reddy stated. Telangana statehood was achieved with the major role of the Congress, while TRS, peoples’ organisations, employees unions and students have their own role, he said.
