Nitish must give priority to Bihar not JD(U): LJP

New Delhi : Lok Janshakti Party ( LJP) leader Chirag Paswan on Sunday congratulated Nitish Kumar on being elected as the Janata Dal (United) chief and expressed hope that the Bihar Chief Minister would give first priority to the state rather than thinking of expanding his party on the national front.

“I congratulate Nitish Kumar ji. It was much expected and as a Bihari I hope that his priority should be as the CM of Bihar rather than being the national president of JD (U). I hope he will give priority to the matters concerning the state first rather than thinking of expending his party on a national level,” Paswan told ANI here.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shahnawaz Hussain on his part said he expects Nitish to take his party forward as his predecessor Sharad Yadav.

“I congratulate him. His predecessor Sharad Yadav did a great job as the previous president of the party and had played a big role in taking the JD (U) forward,” he added.

The Bihar Chief Minister was earlier elected the new president of JD(U) at a meeting of the party’s National Council, bringing an end to the over 10-year long tenure of Sharad Yadav, who decided not to seek a fourth consecutive term.

Yadav, who had been serving as the party chief for the last three terms, resigned from the post today.

As per reports, the JD (U) is planning to expand its base in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the assembly polls slated to be held next year. (ANI)
