Nitish befooling people of Bihar: RJD leader

Patna, May 19: A senior RJD leader today accused Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of befooling people over the number of BPL families in the state and providing them jobs for only 28 days as against 100 earmarked under MGNREGA.

Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, also national vice-president of the party, told reporters here that Kumar claimed there were over 1.40 crore BPL families in the state. But his government issued job cards to 1.24 crore families and provided jobs to only 41.27 lakh BPL families for just 28 days during 2009-10.

Kumar is “befooling and lying to the people,” Singh said and claimed that the state spent just Rs 1816.87 crore during 2009-10 under the Mahatama Gandhi NREGA, whereas Rajasthan spent Rs 8202 crore, Andhra Pradesh Rs 4507 crore and Madhya Pradesh Rs 3779 crore.

Rs 712.26 was spent under the job guarantee scheme during 2006-07 and 1.
