Nirupama Rao exhorts girls to seek career as diplomats

Bangalore, December 12: Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao today exhorted girl students to seek career as diplomats to promote the good of the nation and take India’s message of unity and harmony in diversity to the world.

“Women bring to diplomacy a unique perspective, a holistic vision,” she told students at Mount Carmel College during a function.

Women also bring to diplomacy “tolerance, balance and equity” all of which make diplomacy far more valuable, Rao, an alumni of the institute, said.

Currently, there were 100 women officers in the IFS and 19 of them were ambassadors posted in various capitals. She hoped that young girls would be inspired to take up this career by looking up to women like herself who have opted for it.
