Nirav Rana held, cops grill him to know motive behind Modi SMS

Surat, November 02: The Surat police on Sunday arrested Vishwa Hindu Sewa Samiti founder Nirav Rana and his friend Umesh Jain for allegedly sending an SMS from Rana’s mobile phone wishing ill of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi after he contracted swine flu.

On Sunday, Assistant Commissioner of Police, C-Division, N B Parmar filed a complaint against the duo pressing charges under IPC sections 153(A), 114, 120(B), IT amendment act 66(A). Rana is a resident of Adajan in Surat and Jain is a resident of Chanchal Nagar in Kapodara.

After ascertaining that the objectionable SMS was circulated from the mobile number 9898737829, which belonged to Rana, police called him and questioned him to find out the motive behind sending such messages.

ACP C Division N B Parmar said, “We have filed charges of provocation and hatching conspiracy against the accused. They wanted to spread panic in the city by sending objectionable SMSes in public. We are carrying out interrogation to find out their motive behind such act.”

Incidentally, Rana’s mother Urmila is Surat city women wing president. Rana, who was with the Youth Congress, was ousted from the party.

Later, when Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur was arrested in connection with Malegaon blasts, Rana formed the Vishwa Hindu Sewa Samiti in her support.
