New Delhi, January 27: A nine-year-old boy was charred to death when fire broke out at two night shelters in central Delhi early this morning, fire brigade officials said.
The incident was reported from the night shelters located near Jama Masjid’s Meena Bazar at around 6.15 am. Fire tenders were rushed to the spot which doused the fire in 45 minutes.
The deceased has been identified as Kallu, who was sleeping when the blaze broke out.
The caretaker of the shelters tried to wake him up but before that the fire spread fast.
The fire spread fast as the tents were made of cloth.
The shelters were managed by an NGO Ashray Adhikar Abhiyan. The NGO manages 24 such shelters across the city.
Around 15 children, 20 women and 50 men were at the two shelters when the fire broke.
