Nine people, including five women and two children, were killed in two different road accidents in the district today. Police said in the first incident, a speeding car rammed against a stationary JCB excavator killing four woman and two children on the spot this afternoon. Two others were seriously injured and admitted to taluk hospital. The accident occurred near Garali cross in Challakere taluk. The victims hailed from Koul Bazar in Bellary city and were returning from Bangalore. In another mishap near Hirehalli in the same taluk of this district in the early hours of today, a Trax jeep was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry leaving three persons, including a woman, dead. 14 others travelling in the loaded jeep were injured and admitted to different hospitals. They were daily wagers working in Bangalore and were returning to their home district of Yadgir for holidays. The deceased were identified as Anusuya Bai (25), Vinod (25) and Lingappa (20), police added.
